To make things very clear this space centers those of us that have been “Othered” due to racial, ethnic, (dis)ability, gender, class, age and/or sexual identity. It is a space for us “Othered” to feel safe, find resources & be heard. True solidarity means knowing that though we may experience oppression ourselves; we also can act in the role of the oppressor. There are few spaces for marginalized identities in the homeschool / unschool world. This is also a healing space claimed by marginalized people it is vital that the dominant cultural in this group understand the gift it is to be in this space and the impact they can have.
I welcome this space as a place of learning but NOT at the cost of the people, this group was intended for. I want this group to be a circle that shares, listens and protects with no one at the top. I started this group but I do not want to recreate the triangles of hierarchy our homeschool/ unschool community already has.
Thank you for everyone that is participating & prioritizing social justice in the Homeschooling / unschooling world. Diversity is what we have, inclusion is what we need.
