The SDE Weekend 3: SDE Babies
Self-Directed Education (SDE) principles are often talked about in relation to older kids, but what does this mean in the context of caretaking and raising babies? Like in all of SDE, there is no one way to do things, but many guiding values with a basis in trust and respect for young people. Hear about what SDE means to us in the context of caring for the youngest humans, and our collective struggles, questions, ideas, and successes as we raise our babies as free people.
Justine McConville (she/her)
Justine McConville (she/her) is a Self-Directed Education Facilitator and Literacy Specialist at the Village Free School in Portland, OR-- she also became a mom in 2021! She is fascinated by the ways SDE values already align with raising her little one and is excited to share in conversation with other interested folks.
Bria Bloom (she/her)
Bria Bloom (she/her) grew up in an unschooling family, and is a parent of two self-directed young people, and a passionate advocate for collective liberation, Self-Directed Education, & young people's rights. The unschooling and deschooling world was her gateway into a whole lot of questioning -- realizing that the systems that try to define our lives, and "school" us, are not limited to just school. She also loves to engage & play as an SDE facilitator. Bria is a martial artist and a dancer, a happy Portland cyclist, a vegan cooking enthusiast, a writer, and a semi-aspiring YouTube video creator.
