The Alliance for Self-Directed Education has been working hard to develop a resource for the community that will support folks on their SDE journeys — after more than a year of work with over 60 creators and the support of The VELA Education Fund, we introduce to you...
a rich collection of knowledge, wisdom, and lived experiences from practitioners of Self-Directed Education (SDE) around the world.
This is not just a resource — it’s a vibrant community of learners, educators, and changemakers who believe in the power of Self-Directed Education for social change and upending oppressive systems.
Whether you’re new to SDE or a seasoned practitioner, this experience will deepen your understanding, inspire new ideas, and connect you with folks dedicated to reimagining education.
We are launching April 12th with our first guided cohort — meant to be a community experience that will meet regularly over Spring and Summer with our final gathering on August 30, 2025. Deciding Which Tier to Buy
The Compendium is a major source of income for the year and we worked to come up with pricing tiers that keep our fundraising equitable and content accessible with a sliding scale, while financially supporting ASDE as we continue to offer expansive support and resources.
All prices include regularly scheduled ASDE-facilitated meetups with a cohort. These meetups will be a chance to experience stories and supportive offerings from our SDE community.

What if I want a self-guided version of The ASDE Compendium?
If this is you, stay tuned! ASDE will be releasing a self-guided version of The ASDE Compendium later this year. Beyond a self-guided version, we are also exploring the option for centers and organizations to buy a tier that includes multiple copies of The ASDE Compendium for SDE centers that want to run their own cohort.
Accessible Tier
This price point is the minimum viable price for this amount of content and facilitation support, unless otherwise needed for accessibility purposes.
Supportive Tier
Full course price. This is the price that more accurately reflects the amount of content, work, knowledge, and energy that went into this course. We encourage folks to choose this amount if paying this would not stress their finances. For more on sliding scale examples see this diagram.
Business Tier
This price point is for businesses, parent coaches, and relevant SDE consultants who will be using the information learned through The ASDE Compendium to enhance their businesses, consulting, and education practices. This price point can also be used for SDE Centers looking to purchase multiple tickets, for up to 3 people. However, if you have the funds, we ask that you please purchase individual spots for folks at the center at the $379 or $579 price point.
This tier is also for any folks who have extra access to funds and can pay this price without it stressing their finances. Your extra support allows ASDE to stay true to our accessibility vision.
