SDE Optimizing Conditions

1. Responsibility – We believe each kid is born with their own "curriculum" within. It is the responsibility of each kid to explore, create, and discover that curriculum - on their own time and in their own choosing.
2. Youth Autonomy – Our kids get 95% of their time to do as they wish while at the center. That other 5% we ask of them is our weekly community meeting, which generally lasts about 30 minutes, and then about 50 minutes a week spent on our end of the day clean up.
3. Access to Tools and Technology – All of our members have access to all of our technology, tools, and resources on sight. Some of our belongings require a "qualification" process in order to demonstrate the ability to safely and/or properly use them.
4. Adult Allies – We do not have testing or grades here. We believe kids are capable of self-evaluating their effort and progress toward any personal goals. We have 1:5 adult to kid ratio. Adults here know and believe in the SDE model acting and reacting accordingly.
5. Free Age Mixing – We are a mixed-age community that invites and welcomes all members to every activity we offer or that occurs.
6. Community – All community laws (outside of safety and building welfare) are discussed and voted on as a community. We employ a Resolution Committee to handle community conflicts that raise to that level. We offer on-going communication and involvement with our m
