Greetings All,
For those in the northern hemisphere, summer may feel like it’s peeking over at us. Many SDE centers are wrapping up for the season, and summer planning (if your summer looks different than the other seasons) is in full swing. It can still feel strange to measure the year in this way, given that summer “break” is a concept based on the school calendar, but it’s so deeply rooted in many of our systems that it’s hard to imagine what a rhythm outside of it may look like. What do seasonal rhythms feel like for you all? Does summer just feel a little bit different? Or do you gauge the shifts of the year in another way?
In any case, there are lots of announcements, sharings, and summer things from the SDE community that we are sharing here. We hope you can build these next few months in the way that you desire.
Deep Lounge Place from Maleka “M”
Where individuals, parents, educators, and learning centers interrogate their indoctrination.
“Deep Lounge Place is my 8-month long moving meditation in support of individuals, parents, educators, and education entrepreneurs. It is where I tap into the six senses and my forever love of Deep House and Lounge music, in service of people who are raising children, educating families, and building safer spaces for learning and community-building to happen.”

Parenting for Collective Liberation – An ASDE Community Call
The Alliance for Self-Directed Education is hosting our second community support call! Our topic for June is Parenting for Collective Liberation. Our panelists are Yolanda Williams, Gruff Madrigal and Erin Jantz.
Join us for this opportunity to discuss the urgent need for a shift in parenting dynamics – to honor and respect young people and divest from domination and power for Collective Liberation.

ASDE is looking for a graphic designer or designers for a potential consultation on some of our projects. We’d really like to find someone who is part of the SDE community. Tipping Points Open Call
Let’s have some fun! This Open Call is all about coming up with Unfactual Facts. The premise is to come up with fake facts about schooling culture to bring attention to some of the negative aspects in a somewhat absurd way. Each one should start with, “100% of people...(fill in the blank).”
Examples:
- 100% of people love being told what to do.
- 100% of people remember everything they learned in school.
- 100% of people agreed that if something wasn’t taught in school, it wasn’t worth learning.
