An Important Announcement

Hey folks, Bria here, sharing about my past five years as ASDE’s Executive Director, and talking about an important shift as we move to a flatter hierarchy here at ASDE. Find out more about this decision and the motivation behind it by watching the video. As always, I am here for any questions you have, just email me at bria@self-directed.org.

Sudbury Roundtable

Join us as we engage in a Roundtable Panel Discussion with folks from various frameworks and experiences in the Sudbury model.

The intention of ASDE round tables is to celebrate various models and frameworks of SDE and all the folks who are working within them. We also intend to examine deeper as a group on the major points everyone wants to know about!

“How do they learn?”

“What do you mean the students hire and fire staff?”

“What about a diploma?”

and of course the big topic in the community, “what about conflict?”

We want to connect us all further, celebrate the many ways we are pursuing freedom in education via self-direction and further build our alliance!

This event is part of ASDE’s Community Support Call series.

Invitation to Contribute to a Book

We are sharing an open call for contribution to a book by co-editors Carlo Ricci, John Vitale, Kristan Morrison, Ben Draper, and Vanessa. Details are below, but for even more information, or to submit something, email Ben at ben@macombercenter.org.

Working Title: Smart Phones and Other Technology: Learners Share Their Stories

Focus of the book: Learning, Social Media, Technology (such as Smartphones, Tablets, and Computers), The Darkside and Brightside to Using Technology to Learn, How People Use Technology to Learn

Audience: Students, parents, academics, teachers, school administrators, School trustees, union organizers, policy makers

Many schools and school districts have banned or limited the use of technology (such as Smartphones, Tablets, and Computers), and many learners are limited by parents, schools, and society regarding how much time they are allowed to spend with technology. We are looking for submissions from mainstream schoolers, alternative schoolers, democratic schoolers, homeschoolers, unschoolers, and anyone in general who uses technology to learn. We are also looking for submissions from ALL age groups so that we get a diversity of voices and empower a larger demographic of learners. For example, we are looking for stories of how you use your technology to learn from TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, gaming, or anything else you do. It could be about how you learn academic subjects, music, cooking or anything else. The idea is that we want to share with others how you learn as you live your life and to make the point that everything we do is learning.
