Exciting Resources for and from the SDE Community
Hey folks, we skipped July’s newsletter because it is buuuusy over here. We have been hard at work on partnering with so many folks to create content for our resource packets (don’t forget about our recent call for youth creators), sharing consistent Tipping Points content (check out our latest here– all about what it means to be an SDE facilitator!) hosting community support calls, partnering with online Self-Directed Education communities, and reimagining our website. We are back with this early-August newsletter, and you can generally expect newsletters in the first week of the month from here on out. That means if you have something you want us to share, let us know by the last week of the previous month, at the latest!
Free Not Back to School Webinar – from Radical Learning
This webinar is for all parents living life without school! It gives you practical ways to navigate doubts that can come up, and provides important perspectives that help you find more ease during this time of the year and beyond.
How does it work?
It’s easy! Just press the button below to enroll for free, and we’ll send you a link once the webinar opens up. The webinar is 60 minutes long, and you’ll have access to it during TWO FULL DAYS. No need to show up at a certain time – access the webinar at any time during August 10-11, 2024. (You might want to make a note in your calendar already!) Watch it alone, together with your family – or both!
Downloadable Brochure about ASDE
We have been wanting to share a brochure for awhile, and our team member, Meghan, finally made it happen! Feel free to download and print these free brochures, which share a bit about ASDE and more about Self-Directed Education. You can print these for your centers, conferences, personal use, or to casually drop in a coffee shop or conventional school lobby (😉).
Share the SDE Situation in Your Country!
We recently published an article in Tipping Points Magazine about the SDE situation in Slovenia. From that, someone shared with us what they have experienced in Sweden (look for that article coming soon). We realized that a lot of the time we focus on what’s happening in the United States, so we are specifically seeking out voices from outside the U.S. We want to hear your stories. What is the educational climate like where you live? Is unschooling illegal? Is there support for it? What are the subtle or overt societal narratives about schooling and education? Share the SDE situation in your country either by going to our content submission page or by emailing tp.editors@self-directed.org.
Sidney Morris, a champion of SDE and long time ASDE member, passes away
Sidney Morris, who was a long time ASDE member, supporter, and frequently attended our local SDE group meetings, passed away this past month. I knew Sidney to be a passionate advocate for kids and Self-Directed Education. His presence in this community was always a joy, and he will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the ways he supported this movement, and touched our lives in many ways. Thank you, Sidney.
