Hey folks,
We have some exciting announcements to share (hint: ASDE Podcast) as well as some upcoming events – some hosted by us and some hosted by others. We also want to share a liiitttle bit about a huge project we have been working on that is going to be released this Spring – The ASDE Compendium.

The ASDE Compendium

The ASDE Compendium is a collection of knowledge, experiences, and wisdom from over 40 creators in the SDE Movement, and it covers topics such as intro to SDE, liberatory parenting, neurodiversity in SDE, and building resilient communities. The beauty, honesty, and depth of work and experiences shared in the Compendium have blown us away, and we cannot wait to share it with you. Keep an eye out for more information to come, and if you would like to be among the first to purchase ASDE’s Compendium please send us an e-mail to be on the first-look list!

ASDE Film Screening: Killing Curiosity

Friday, February 21, 2-3:30 PM CST
Join us in the screening of the documentary film Killing Curiosity, the result of +100 interviews in some of the most innovative learning centers across 12 countries.

Travel, education, and a quest for purpose collide in this adventure around the world questioning not only how we learn, but how we live.

The creators of the film and founders of Evolving Education, Luz Olid and David Caballero, will guide this interactive session in moving from awareness to action.

Call to Action in the SDE Community

Barriers to SDE in Germany

ASDE has a direct interest in making Self-Directed Education possible for any and all people- we are also mindful of the ways governments around the world are creating barriers to this pursuit, and even taking legal action against their own citizens who do not ascribe to the dominant educational path for their children.

Please find a message here from Daniel Karrasch, who is now working on the beginnings of his own Self-Directed Education community founding phase, and bravely taking on the German state. There was an opportunity to just pay a fine and give in, but Daniel is willing to take on the challenge of pushing back for change, to set a precedent that would indeed help us all...

I turn to you today to ask you for your (financial) support. We are a family with two daughters who have been freely forming for more than 4 years, so they do not attend school especially at their own request. Our daughters follow their interests and develop relevant abilities and a strong sense of self-determination and personal responsibility. We parents do our best to support them in this.
