Grant Announcement
We are so excited to share with you all that ASDE received a Next Steps grant from VELA to work on some major projects and expansion of our resources, partnerships, and community support. We, at ASDE, have a unique position to be a liaison for collective liberation through Self-Directed Education and we are thrilled to bring more resources to the community with this in focus.
Take a look at this video to learn more (video notes include audio transcript), and keep a lookout for future updates, invitations, and events from us in the coming months!
📣 Open Call for ASDE Volunteers
ASDE is currently working on a variety of projects to build a bigger presence in the SDE community through community engagements, tangible resources, and a future opportunity to join us at an in-person conference in 2025! We are looking for volunteers to support our growing team. Please also take a look at our values and make sure they align well for you before filling out our volunteer form.
Our needs at present are as follows, and we would love to know if you would be interested in joining us. The minimum we ask is that all volunteers join our Slack workspace and participate in monthly working group meetings.
Volunteer needs and ways you can support ASDE on the regular:
-Become a Board Member
ASDE Board Members work behind the scenes to manage our website and social media presence, coordinate advocacy projects, and help bring a variety of voices and experiences of those in the Self-Directed Education movement, globally.
We are seeking global representation on our Board to commit to one meeting monthly, and sometimes additional meetings for specialized working groups on various projects and efforts, if they choose.
Monthly meetings are scheduled based on team availability.
-Join the Tipping Points Magazine Team (especially looking for youth volunteers)
We are looking for people who are excited to join our team, even if grammar and writing skills aren’t your strengths.
We ask volunteers to join monthly team meetings.
Some other volunteer opportunities could include discussing article topic ideas, content creation, editing/proofreading, and contacting possible contributors.
-Record Readings for Substack (reading scripts out loud to build in audio accessibility)
-Online Space Facilitators and Notetakers for Events
-Join the Marketing Team
Monthly Zoom meetings, Graphic design, Social media

Learning and Liberation Episode 0
From Ben and Genevieve:
“The first episode of our documentary series is out now! It follows the beginning of our journey making this project, as we set out on a road trip from Pennsylvania to Oregon. It’s a bit different from the rest of the episodes, but we’re very happy with how it turned out. We’re so glad to finally be able to share it with you. Click here to watch it on YouTube!“
